GREAT FIRE OF LONDON
WALKING TOUR
INCLUDING THE BLITZ!
Walk through the City of London in the footsteps of Samuel Pepys and discover how the Great Fire of 1666 transformed the capital. Hear the stories of the people caught in the flames, the rebuilding of London, and the remarkable details Pepys recorded — including the Parmesan and wine he buried for safekeeping. Along the way, discover how the City faced destruction once again during the Blitz.
As we explore the Great Fire, we’ll also jump forward nearly 300 years to 29 December 1940, when one of the most devastating nights of the Blitz became known as the Second Great Fire of London.
We’ll discover how London fought fire in 1666 and 1940, how firefighting changed over the centuries, and how disasters like these helped shape the fire safety measures that still protect the city today.
